Mankuthimmana Kagga is one of the giant literary works in Kannada authored by D V Gundappa which is known to be as Kannadada Bhagavadgita / Common Man’s Bhagavadgita.
- Mankuthimmana Kagga has 945 verses which covers various different topics
- DVG was always fascinated by common man’s grasp of Vachanas and other short verses which was used in day to-day lives and wrote Kagga in similar fashion where every verse is 4 lines long and ends with ‘Mankuthimma’ and whole intention was to reach common man
- DVG as prologue has written a story (Kaggada Kathe) where he explains how ‘Somi’ got hold of the book Mankuthimmana Kagga and that boy is very similar to DVG who gets knowledge/guidance from his uncle during his childhood days
- In the initial edition of the book (1943) , DVG has not even published his name as part of the book as he modestly admitted its just knowledge passing verses from a mater to his disciple and in subsequent editions due to pressure from close circles he obliged to add his name
- As S R Ramaswamy (Member of the DVG Study Group) states today Kagga is no more a book it has become a Industry on which many thrive
