S L Bhyrappa (S.L.B.) describes D.V.G. as a pioneer in the era of modern Kannada literature. The amount of work by him is immense. D.V.G. was well-versed in Economics, Administration, Art, Social Service.
Many noble personalities like Sir M. Visvesvaraya, Sir Mirza Ismail were having discussions with him. D.V.G. was very much interested in Philosophy, especially keen to understand Greek Philosophy. M.Hiriyanna once asked him to throw more light on it. Prof M Hiriyanna being most admired intellectual asking D.V.G can throw us more light on the knowledge of D.V.G
D.V.G. was always intending to learn from primary sources. S.L.B. elucidate “Mankuthimmana Kagga” as an unbeatable work in the Kannada literature.
D.V.G. was capable of writing even many people are gathered around. Even after a talk with his followers he was able to continue with the work.
In 1971 S.L.B. got an opportunity to meet D.V.G. when he got transferred to Mysore from Gujarat. S.L.B. recalls the first time when he saw D.V.G when he asked him if he was author of “Vamshavruksha”. He was just sitting on a diwan in an old attire. D.V.G inquired about his family and claimed only married person has the capability of doing such a work (Srujanasheela Sahithya). S.L.B. said he totally felt like conversing with his grandfather. He was very comfortable around talking with him. He brought such an impression on S.L.B. D.V.G. proclaimed to be a scholar one needs to be a bachelor. Then he will be able to give his best on the work.
D.V.G. established Gokhale Institute of Public Affairs with the funds of his followers who believed in him. The main motto of the Institute was to spread moralize public affairs. Lots of events were conducted to spread spiritual ideas.
The committee once decided to gift 80 thousand to D.V.G for his 80th year birthday. But he decided to return back the money for the development of Institute.
D.V.G was always a man with Integrity.
Mankutimmana kagga is not just his ideas but it was his life experiences through which D.V.G conveys life lessons so accurately.
“Vijayavani” press media for one of its article asked S.L.B. about his most influential person in his life. S.L.B. said he has not one but two in his life and they were Sir M.V. and D.V.G. It was really difficult to chose one among them. So, he ended up writing on both of them. He found that the common attribute between the both was Integrity. D.V.G was not as economical as Sir M.V. but was very approachable. He was easily reachable for any common person.
S.L.B. believes D.V.G. has taught us many life values through his poems, novels, dramas. D.V.G. is one such amazing soul who was capable of doing wonders.
